Characteristics of Patients Having Splenic Involvement in Tuberculosis

Objective: One important, though poorly described, manifestation of Extra-pulmonary tuberculosis (EPTB) is that splenic (TB). We aimed to identify the epidemiological, clinical and radiological characteristics TB in Southern Tunisia analyse its therapeutic evolutionary modalities. Materials methods: TB-patients (pulmonary and/or extra-pulmonary) with abnormal parenchymal lesion on radiologial exploration were scanned light demographic, clinical, features response treatment. Results: included 10 patients. Most patients (70%) aged more than 25 years sex ratio was 0.25. Immunosupression noted 3 cases. Constitutional symptoms common presentations apart from other abdominal symptoms. frequent ultrasound (US) findings multiple focal hypoechoic lesions splenomegaly. Computed tomography (CT) scan allowed a better characterization showing mainly micronodular spleen hypodense nodudes. All received anti-TB drugs for median 13 months splenectomy not indicated any case. The outcome mostly favorable death occurred one Conclusion: involvement include both immunocompetant immunosuppressed It reported disseminated form disease. Radiological are highly useful diagnosis but should always be correlated overall presentation demonstration at body sites.
